Semper Consulting, a Longwood, Florida-based sales consulting firm, is observing a clear shift in what early-career professionals expect from entry-level roles, as Gen Z workforce trends continue to reshape how individuals approach their first full-time positions. While entry-level careers were once defined by rigid structures, narrow responsibilities, and slower progression timelines, today’s candidates are increasingly prioritizing professional growth and hands-on experience from the start.
In many traditional career paths, entry-level positions were designed primarily as observational or task-based roles with limited exposure to broader business functions. Advancement often depended on time spent in a position rather than skill development or performance. However, expectations have evolved significantly, particularly among recent graduates entering competitive job markets where career development opportunities are a key deciding factor.
Early-career professionals are now placing greater importance on environments that offer structured learning, clear progression pathways, and meaningful day-to-day involvement. Rather than viewing entry-level roles as purely introductory, many candidates are actively seeking positions that allow them to contribute early and gain transferable skills that extend beyond a single job title.
As a result, professional growth opportunities have become a central focus for individuals when evaluating potential employers. Exposure to real-world responsibilities, consistent mentorship, and the development of communication and leadership skills are now considered essential components of early-career success.

Growing up in DeLand, Florida, Connor Hatcher always pictured himself building a career centered around people. Long before stepping into sales, he was drawn to roles that involved leadership, communication, and helping others. At one point, he even considered becoming a police officer. Looking back, that interest makes sense. Whether at work or in everyday life, Connor has always been someone who values responsibility, connection, and showing up for the people around him.
After high school, Connor made a move that many wouldn’t expect — he headed to Colorado for three years, traveling, exploring, and experiencing life outside of what he’d always known. It was a formative stretch that broadened his perspective and fed a curiosity about what he was truly capable of. Eventually, he found his way back to Florida, carrying new confidence and a sharper sense of direction.
His career path took a few turns before landing somewhere that stuck. He spent time as a marketing manager for a water filtration company and even tried his hand at roofing, but neither quite fit. Once he saw the opportunity in sales, he knew what he wanted to do. He joined Semper Consulting in October 2025 as an Outdoor Sales Representative and hasn’t looked back.
Building Something Real
Connor hit the ground running. For him, success in sales isn’t just about numbers. It’s about mindset. He believes a positive attitude is the single greatest driver of productivity, and that showing up fully, giving it everything you have, is what separates good days from great ones.
“My career has already grown a great amount, from being the #1 rep in the country to learning and growing as an individual. I’m taking advantage of the opportunity we have here at Semper Consulting.”
His personal growth at our company has been just as meaningful as his professional wins. He credits the role with deepening his integrity, sharpening his leadership instincts, and pushing him to mature in ways he didn’t anticipate. “I’ve grown personally through my work ethic, by helping others, and just maturing as an individual,” he reflects.
The values of integrity, leadership, and growth aren’t new concepts to Connor, but at Semper Consulting, he says, they have been ingrained more deeply.
Built Around Family, Leadership, and Purpose
Outside of work, Connor is anchored by the people who matter most: his fiancée Emily and his two kids, Bennett and Aslyn. Fatherhood, in particular, has shaped how he approaches both life and leadership. In fact, when asked about his greatest skill, Connor did not mention sales or communication. Instead, he answered honestly: being a dad and being a good person.
This perspective carries into the way he approaches leadership and teamwork. He believes in being available to help others, maintaining a positive mindset, and leading by example through consistency and effort. He also credits Semper Consulting President Tyler Lozier and Luis Puig as important mentors who have helped guide his growth and expand his opportunities within the business.
Looking ahead, Connor sees himself staying in the business world for the long haul. More importantly, he wants to continue growing into someone others can rely on both professionally and personally.

Transitioning from military service into a civilian career is a significant shift. It often comes with questions about how prior experience translates into a new industry and where those skills can be applied effectively. At Semper Consulting in Longwood, FL, we’ve seen firsthand how individuals with military backgrounds step into sales roles and quickly find their footing.
The reason is straightforward. Many of the qualities developed through military service align closely with those that drive success in a performance-based, team-oriented environment.
Discipline is one of the most immediate parallels. In the military, consistency, preparation, and attention to detail are essential. Those same traits carry over into sales, where results are built through daily habits, structured routines, and a strong sense of accountability. Our team operates in an environment where expectations are clear, and performance is measured, making it a natural fit for individuals accustomed to working toward defined goals.
Adaptability is another key factor. Military experience often requires individuals to think quickly, adjust to changing situations, and remain composed under pressure. In sales, no two interactions are exactly the same. Being able to adjust communication styles, respond to questions in real time, and navigate different customer perspectives is critical. Veterans often bring a level of composure and flexibility that allows them to handle these situations with confidence.
Leadership also plays a central role. Many individuals coming from the military have experience leading teams, taking responsibility, and making decisions in dynamic environments. At Semper Consulting, leadership is not reserved for a specific title. It’s something we build over time through accountability, initiative, and consistent performance. Those who already have a foundation in leadership often progress naturally as they continue to refine those skills in a new setting.
Communication is another area where the transition is strong. In both the military and sales, being direct matters. Whether it’s delivering instructions, working within a team, or engaging with customers, strong communication is essential. Our face-to-face sales approach relies on direct interaction, which allows individuals to apply and strengthen these skills every day.
What makes this transition even more seamless is the structure of our environment. At Semper Consulting, we provide a clear framework for growth through hands-on experience and ongoing guidance. There is a defined path for development, but progress is earned through effort and application. For individuals coming from a background where structure and accountability are already part of the process, this creates a strong sense of alignment.
Beyond the skill set, there is also a shared mindset. Many veterans are driven by purpose and value the opportunity to be part of a team working toward a common goal. That same mindset is reflected in how we operate. We focus on building an environment where individuals support one another, take ownership of their results, and continue to push for improvement.
We’ve seen how military experience can translate into long-term success in both sales and leadership roles at Semper Consulting. The combination of discipline, adaptability, communication, and accountability creates a strong foundation that carries over into our day-to-day work.
For veterans exploring their next step, we encourage you to learn more about careers at Semper Consulting and connect with our team to see how your experience can apply in this environment.
